Ajuga 'Blueberry Muffin' is a Terra Nova introduction of a ploidy mutant of the popular miniature-leafed, Italian endemic, Ajuga tenorei 'Valfredda'. The sterile Ajuga 'Blueberry Muffin' forms a very tight clump of tiny purple leaves that eventually reaches only 3" tall x 18" wide. The clumps are topped with dense spikes of dark purple flowers in spring...perfect where you need a colorful evergreen groundcover that doesn't take over.
Maintenance:
Ajuga 'Blueberry Muffin' is as close to being a maintenance free perennial as can be.They can be planted on 18" centers for a dense, weed-suppressing groundcover.
Growing Conditions:
While ajugas like Ajuga 'Blueberry Muffin' like moist soil, they also need good drainage.Crown rot can be a problem in soils that are poorly drained. While Ajuga 'Blueberry Muffin' will grow fine in both sun and shade, plants in part sun seem to fare best. In these conditions, soils dry out quicker, which can present diseases.
