Podophyllum peltatum 'Maid Marion' is our 2004 collection of the US native mayapple from Marion County, Texas, just northwest of Shreveport, Louisiana. For us, this collection from the southern end of its range emerges around Valentine's Day. The 15" tall stalks are topped with deeply-incised green foliage, marked nicely with copper patterns as they emerge. The 1-1.5" wide, pleasantly fragrant, white flower is held just below the leaves in early March (NC). As with all of our native Podophyllum peltatum, they are summer dormant, but while in growth spread by rhizomes just below the surface, forming an 8' wide patch in 10 years.
