Clematis ochroleuca 'Penny's Bend' is our 2025 introduction of a seed grown strain of the southeast US native bush clematis from a population in Durham County, NC. The deciduous Clematis ochroleuca 'Penny's Bend' emerges in early spring, forming a 15" tall x 2' wide mass of stems, each ending in an ochre-colored bell-shaped flower. As the flowers fade, they are replaced by breathtakingly beautiful 2" wide bronzy seedheads, which remain well into summer. Clematis ochroleuca 'Penny's Bend' is found in very dry open woodlands, but performs as well or better in a full sun rock garden.
