We first met East coast native (Pennsylvania south to Alabama) Carex digitalis var. digitalis on our 2013 botanizing expedition to eastern Tennessee. In the wild it can be found in moist deciduous forests, growing on both acidic and alkaline soils. Back in our NC garden, Carex digitalis var. digitalis 'Jacksboro' has formed a tight 10" tall x 2' wide evergreen clump that looks so similar to liriope you'll do a double take...great in mass or as a solitary specimen. We think you'll really enjoy this amazing but horticulturally little-known sedge from our collection from Jacksboro in Campbell County, Tennessee.
