Although we can't find anything silver about Zingiber 'Silver Arrow', it's been a great garden plant in our trials. From part sun to light shade, Zingiber mioga 'Silver Arrow' produces a patch of 3' tall stalks, each lined with 1' long x 3" wide leaves, emerging parchment gold and becoming flecked green with a delicious butterscotch frosting. This is a vigorous grower, producing a 5' wide tropical-looking patch in 5 years in good rich soil. The yellow orchid-like flowers magically appear at ground level starting in late summer. Plantsman Aaron Floden tells us that this species came through fine at -15 degrees F in Kansas.
