(aka: Pelazoneuron kunthii, Thelypteris normalis) The robust Thelypteris kunthii is one of our favorite Southeast US native ferns and certainly one of the most durable ferns we grow. The large, light green triangular fronds of abundant maiden fern are produced all summer, and contrast nicely with the near white stipes (stems) that support them. The slowly rhizomatous, deer-resistant, winter-deciduous Thelypteris kunthii spreads nicely to make incredible woodland masses. Not only does abundant maiden fern thrive in shade, but it grows equally well for us in full, baking sun. We think everyone should have an abundance of maidens throughout their garden.
