We have been very impressed with our trials of Sedum 'Firecracker', the 2014 introduction and improvement over the earlier Sedum 'Cherry Tart', from Michigan plant breeder, Chris "Sparky" Hansen. For us, it forms a 3" tall x 2' wide evergreen mound of foliage that emerges grey and almost immediately changes to a lovely rosy purple. As a rock gardener, we like that it has a controlled growth spread, so if you're using it for a groundcover, you'll need a plant every 2'. In late summer, it's topped with a show of pink flowers, but we'd grow this just for the foliage.
