Scutellaria salviifolia is another little-known gem for the rock garden that's really impressed us in our trials. Hailing from the dry regions of Central Turkey to 9,000' elevation, Scutellaria salviifolia is usually found in open clearings among fir/pine forests. For us, it forms a 1' tall x 2' wide patch, clothed in pinkie-sized quilted green leaves, and topped, starting for us in mid-April with short stalks for small butter yellow flowers. Although it's native in part sun, our plants have thrived in our full sun rock garden. Good drainage in high rainfall areas is critical for success.
