(USPP 12,138 expired) Pulmonaria 'Raspberry Splash' is a 1999 Terra Nova introduction that boasts very nice long green leaves with dramatic silver spotting. In very early spring, the 1' tall x 2' wide clumps are topped with tremendous clusters of vivid raspberry-purple flowers. These are perfect en masse for that special area in the lightly shaded to part sun woodland garden.
Maintenance:
The old foliage get's a bit ragged in winter time, so we like to cut it back in February, just before the flowers begin to emerge for a better floral show. Other than that, that's about it for maintenance.
Growing Conditions:
Pulmonarias grow best in moist, well-drained soils that don't stay waterlogged. Light open shade is best. We have not found either deep shade or full sun to be very satisfactory, although a couple of hours of sun in the early morning will be fine.
Garden Value:
Pulmonarias are prized for their fascinating spotted foliage, but the number one reason to grow them are the raspberry-purple flowers in late winter.
