Pontederia cordata var. lancifolia is a Southeast US coastal plain native, hailing from Virginia to East Texas. Pontederia 'Franklin' is a 2024 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of a Vic Lambou collection from Franklin County, in the Florida panhandle. Pontederia 'Franklin' forms an offsetting patch to 3' tall x 4' wide in five years. The upright stalks end in a much narrow leaf than Pontederia cordata var. cordata, although the spike of lavender flowers that top the foliage, starting for us in mid-June are quite similar. Moist soils to shallow water is a perfect habitat.
