More Information About Pontederia
Pontederia is a genus of aquatic plants in the Pontederiaceae family and are commonly known as pickerelweeds. These plants grow in shallow water or wet soils, and their leaves are typically broad and arrow-shaped. The flowers are blue, violet, or white, and they bloom on tall spikes above the water surface. The plants provide habitat and food for aquatic animals, and make superb bog garden plants.
The genus was named by Swedish botanist Linnaeus, who standardized binomial nomenclature, in honour of the Italian botanist Giulio Pontedera.
