Mitchella repens 'Danny' is our collection from Georgetown County, SC in 2007, where it grew in a seasonally flooded lowland with Arisaema triphyllum, Spiranthes, and Zephyranthes atamasca. In the garden, Mitchella repens 'Danny' has formed a 1" tall, dense, evergreen groundcover of small, round, dark green leaves held along the flexible stem...the most vigorous form we've ever grown, spreading 3' in 5 years. Following the small white flowers in spring are bright red fruit in the fall. As you can probably guess, we named it after the red-headed, equally dense, former member of the Partridge family.
