We are thrilled to offer Hans Hansen's 2017 creation, Manfreda 'Mint Chocolate Chip', our favorite flavor, now with NO calories! This seedling of the wonderful Manfreda 'Chocolate Chips' has shorter, thicker leaves, with the same dramatic leaf undulations and even more dark chocolate chips per leaf...no doubt, made by elves living in a hollow cactus. The glaucous, rubbery, spine-free leaves, which appear to be a tetraploid (extra sets of chromosomes), remain evergreen in frost-free climates, but become tardily deciduous when temperatures drop into the teens F and below. The flashy, over-the-top, squid-like, tight-clumping rosettes form 10" tall x 32" wide clumps, topped in late spring with 30" stalks ending in a show of odd flowers, which resemble diving burgundy spiders wearing bright yellow shoes.
