True elegance are the best words to describe this amazing, new, easy-to-grow eye shadow iris from renown Japanese iris breeder, Hiroshi Shimizu. Iris x pseudata 'Yarai' is an insanely incredible iris that has to be grown to be believed. This cross of two marginal water iris, Iris ensata (Japanese iris) and Iris pseudacorus (yellow flag iris) resulted in a stunning, tightly-clumping, 2' tall specimen, whose well-branched stalks are topped, starting in early May with terminal flower clusters. Each flower is composed of large tan lower falls (petals) with intricately patterned purple veins, and a prominent yellow eye that coordinates perfectly with the smaller, upright purple standards. Iris 'Yarai' grows equally as well in shallow standing water as in typical garden soil.
