We are thrilled to offer the very rare, South Central Chinese native Iris dabashanensis, which looks far more like an evergreen ornamental grass than an iris. It's a story of confusion, however, that goes back to the 1800s. For years, this iris was cultivated by collectors as Iris henryi, but it turned out to be incorrectly identified and was actually an un-named species, hailing from the alkaline soil woodlands of Daba Mountain. Thanks to the work of Darrell Probst, it finally was formally published in 2020 as Iris dabashanensis. The grass-like, slowly spreading mounds are adorned with small white flowers that just top the foliage in early spring.
