(aka: Aster linariifolius) Ionactis linariifolia is an easy-to-grow, un aster-like eastern US native, which ranges from Canada south to Florida. Perhaps this is why the Evil Empire of Plant Taxonomy has now banished it to the genus Ionactis. Regardless, stiff aster is one of our favorite native plants for a baking-sun rock garden. Our selection Ionactis 'Little Stiffy' is the most compact, best branched, and floriferous seedling we've seen. The rigid 1' tall stems are adorned with stiff, hemlock-like needles. In early summer, the 1' wide clumps are topped with hundreds of small lavender flowers...a truly superb selection of a great native.
