We've grown the legume, Genista sagittalis for several decades, but it wasn't until a 2012 botanizing trip to the Balkans that I gained a whole new appreciation for this prostrate broom. There, at 2,600' in Bosnia, we saw stunning masses, where it grew in open, rocky fields with hellebores and colchicums. We grow Genista sagittalis in our full sun rock garden where it makes an 8" tall x 18" wide patch of odd, flat, green stems. In April (NC), the new upright growth is topped with clusters of small yellow flowers...delicate, but quite showy. We have found Genista sagittalis very easy to grow in well-drained soils.
