(aka: Eutrochium purpureum) Starting for us in late July, Eupatorium purpureum 'Baby Joe', selected by Hollands' Hubertus Oudshoorn, produces 3' tall upright compact plants, that produce very floriferous, highly branched flower heads. Although touted as maturing at only 18" tall, our plants didn't get the memo. Although Eupatorium purpureum is usually found in moist ditches across its native range (Canada south to the Florida panhandle), it can easily handle garden soils of average moisture. Because of its compact habit, you'll need to sit to be at butterfly level.
