Epimedium 'Spine Tingler' is a 2008 Darrell Probst introduction...a selection of a still unnamed species of Chinese fairy wing that Darrell discovered on a remote cliff in Sichuan, China. The undulating, evergreen (even in Zone 5), spiny leaves (like the similar Epimedium ilicifolium) are quite narrow...less than 1" wide. Starting in late March (NC), the foliage, which emerges brushed with light chocolate, is topped with short but floriferous spikes of light yellow flowers...sure to be a spine tingler in your late winter garden. This splendid selection was awarded with the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit.
