Dentaria diphylla 'Bama Jama' is unusual in that we discovered it in a seasonally flooded lowland in Calhoun County, Alabama, where it formed a huge 12' wide patch, growing with other wetland species like Trillium lancifolium. This was the first time I'd ever seen Dentaria diphylla in such a wet habitat. The leaves of Dentaria diphylla 'Bama Jama' are dark green, highlighted by silver veins with a very dark purple back. Dentaria diphylla 'Bama Jama' makes a 3' wide patch in 5 years, going semi-dormant in very late summer and returning in late winter/early spring when it is topped with 10" spikes of light lavender flowers.
