(aka: Clematis hirsutissima var. scottii) Clematis scottii is an amazing dwarf bush clematis, native to mountain meadows and rocky slopes at 5000-10000' elevation in the Great Basin region (South Dakota to New Mexico). Clematis scottii thrives in full sun with a slight bit of moisture, but part sun is best where rainfall is sparse. Our offering of Clematis scottii 'Custer's Best Stand' are seed grown from where else, but Custer County, Colorado. Clematis scottii is a perfect rock garden specimen forming a 1' tall clump that eventually enlarges to 18" wide, topped starting in mid spring with downturned purple bells held just above the dainty foliage...followed by amazing fluffy white seedheads...seriously choice and so cute.
