Clematis pitcheri 'Pottawatomie' is a seed strain from the Kansas county of the same name (famed for the Civil War era Pottawatomie Massacre), shared by plantsman extraordinaire Aaron Floden. Clematis pitcheri 'Pottawatomie' makes a 12' tall vine with wiry brown stems. Two pendent purple bells emerge from each leaf axil, along with a leafy tendril that helps keep it attached to a fence or other support. For us, Clematis pitcheri 'Pottawatomie' begins flowering in early June...very easy and quite drought tolerant once established.
