Carex brevior is a widespread, but rarely grown sedge, native to all but three of the lower 48 states, where it most likely resides, but hasn't been documented. In the garden, it forms a beautiful 1' tall x 3' wide, deciduous, waterfall-shaped clump. The narrow 3' tall spikes, top the clump, starting for us in early July. Our offering is from a 2022 Patrick McMillan collection in Osage County, Oklahoma. In the wild, it grows on dry rock roadsides as well as in flooded lowlands, and is avoided by both deer and rabbits.
