(aka: Blechnum occidentalis var. minor) Blechnum appendiculatum is a fern whose siblings have spread far and wide, with a native range that includes South America, West Indies, Mexico, and a disjunct population in central Texas. In the wild, Blechnum appendiculatum can be found growing in rock crevices in part sun/light shade, where it spreads slowly, interweaving its rhizomes among the rocks. Blechnum appendiculatum is a small fern, reaching only 8" in height with fronds that emerge rosy red and age to something that resembles a dwarf, glossy Christmas fern.
