(syn: Ionactis linariifolia) Aster linariifolius is an easy-to-grow, un aster-like eastern US native aster, which ranges from Canada south to Florida. Perhaps this is why the Evil Empire of Plant Taxonomy has now banished it to the Genus Ionactis. Regardless, Aster linariifolius is one of our favorite native plants for a baking sun rock garden. Our selection Aster 'Little Stiffy' is the most compact, best branched, and floriferous seedling we've seen. The rigid 1' tall stems are adorned with stiff, hemlock-like needles. In early summer, the 1' wide clumps are topped with hundreds of small lavender flowers...a truly superb selection of a great native.
