Asarum 'Iron Butterfly' is a 2020 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of our selection the giant Chinese wild ginger. Asarum nobilissimum 'Iron Butterfly' forms a large evergreen mass thanks to a thick spreading rhizome. In good soils, you can expect a 3' wide patch in 10 years. The glossy green leaves can reach 8" in length. In April (NC), the giant easily visible flowers open to reveal dark purple petals, highlighted by a striking white eye zone, with a deeper interior purple eye socket. We have found all of the Asarum nobilissimum cultivars to be extremely easy to grow in average woodland garden conditions.
