Asarum macranthum 'Creeping Tortoise' is a 2020 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of our 2008 collection from 6,200' elevation in Taiwan's Taichung County. This splendid wild ginger selection is clothed with lovely silver veined leaves, but also spreads, which is a trait only seen occasionally in populations of this species. Asarum macranthum 'Creeping Tortoise' will form a 3" tall x 2' wide patch after 10 years. The fascinating ruffled purple flowers are tucked beneath the foliage in very early spring. We have found it easy-to-grow in the woodland garden with average soil moisture.
