(aka: Asarum shuttleworthii var. harperi) Asarum 'Callaway' is a fabulous selection of the evergreen southeast US native, Asarum harperi, discovered in the Pine Mountain, Georgia region. The small rounded half-dollar-sized leaves are dark green but heavily mottled with dramatic silver venation. Asarum 'Callaway' is quite stoloniferous, eventually making a dense evergreen deer-resistant groundcover to 3" tall x 3' wide in 10 years. Although Asarum harperi is a bog species in the wild, it adapts well to all but the driest woodland conditions. In late spring, the large purple jug-like flowers adorn the base of the plant...WOW!
