(aka: Asarum campaniforme) Asarum campaniflorum 'Leprechaun' is a Plant Delights Nursery selection of the wild ginger, described in 2004, from the bamboo-filled slopes below 1,000' elevation in China's Hubei Province. We've grown this clone of Asarum campaniflorum in our shade garden since 2000, even before it was published. Asarum campaniflorum has amazingly elegant flowers which poke out from beneath the evergreen foliage in late winter/early spring. Each 1" long, creamy, thimble-shaped flower is bordered with a stunning band of dark purple around the tip. The glossy, triangular-shaped leaves which compose the 6" tall x 18" wide clumps are green with random lighter green blotching.
