Asarum asperum 'Silver Streak' is a Plant Delights Nursery introduction of the central Japanese rough-leaf wild ginger. Asarum asperum 'Silver Streak' forms a compact 3" tall x 1' wide evergreen clump of heart-shaped leaves. Each leaf is made up of three shades of green...a base of medium green, a slightly darker green border, and a very dark green central pattern. Running from the middle of the lobes to the leaf tip is a dramatic silver streak that dissects the dark green pattern. The tri-lobed, glossy, violet-purple flowers occur beneath the leaves in March (NC). Asarum asperum is a great companion to ferns, hostas, and Solomon's seal in the woodland garden, where average to slightly moist soils are perfect. We've grown this clone for 20 years and finally have enough to share.
