Agave schottii v. treleasei is one of those agaves with a sordid past as well as present. Agave schottii is a small agave with narrow, upright, blue-green, 10" long leaves occurring on rocky outcrops in Arizona. The variety treleasei varies from the normal Agave schottii by being a little larger with slightly wider leaves and, like subway tunnels in large cities, it is often highlighted with irregular white markings. In form, imagine a porcupine with rigor mortis and you get the picture...it eventually forms a 2' wide mass of leaves. Agave flowers attract hummingbirds.
