We are thrilled to offer our first hybrid strain of toadshade that first popped up here in the botanic garden at Juniper Level. Many years ago, our population of Trillium x luteatum (cuneatum x luteum) from Van Buren County, Tennessee took a liking to a nearby Trillium maculatum, and before we knew it, there was a litter of babies. We immediately knew something was amiss since we'd never seen any trillium quite like this. The 10" tall, ruffled foliage emerges with an outstanding kaleidoscope mix of mauve, grey, and olive. The liver-colored petals are intermediate in shape between both parents. While the flowers are open, the foliage begins to morph into the more typical olive and grey blend, so depending on when your order ships, you may not see the purple foliage until the following spring. I'll be honest...it was really hard not to keep all of these for our own garden since as seedlings, each is slightly different, and so amazing. So, don't miss this chance until the next batch of seedlings is ready years from now!
