Sorghastrum nutans 'Slim Pickens' is a 2022 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of a very heat and humidity loving, blue-foliaged form of the widespread US native species, that we spotted originally in the habitat garden section of the South Carolina Botanical Garden. A shared piece has been evaluated at JLBG since 2018, and we continue to be impressed. Other, more northerly forms have failed to thrive for us, but this collection from Pickens County, SC has excelled, forming a 4' tall clump of foliage, topped, starting for us in mid-October with a stunning 7' tall show of ochre-colored plumes.
