Sisyrinchium 'Lucerne' is an amazing selection of our native blue-eyed grass, made by plantsman Robert Herman, formerly of White Flower Farm, while in Lucerne, Switzerland. The amazingly large, 0.75", blue-purple flowers top the narrow, iris-like foliage from May until July. Lucerne blue-eyed grass does not have the proclivity to try and take over the world with aggressive seeding...wonderful!
Maintenance:
In the garden, it's a virtually maintenance free perennial. Other than dividing your plant to spread around, there is little else to do to keep your plant happy.
Growing Conditions:
This blue-eyed grass prefers bright sun and well drained soils. In the proper conditions, this blue-eyed grass is bulletproof.
Garden Value:
It is most often used as a solitary specimen in a rock garden, but it can be planted in mass if you have enough plant. We'd recommend planting them on 1' centers, or slightly closer for best effect.
Natural Impact:
Bees are the primary pollinators of the blue-eyed grasses like 'Lucerne'.
