Sarracenia 'Redbug' is an amazingly vigorous Larry Mellichamp hybrid...a forced wedding of first cousins Sarracenia rubra ssp. rubra and Sarracenia alabamensis ssp. wherryi. Yes, that was still legal in Charlotte, NC, when the act was consummated. The dense 1' tall x 22" wide clumps are composed of up to 180 pitchers at once...yes, we counted. The 1' tall pitchers are green at the base, but heavily infused with red toward and including the hood. In late April (NC), the clumps are topped with propeller-like flowers with blood red petals, contrasting with a bright green seed-collecting plate.
