Sarracenia alata 'Purple Peeper' is a 2017 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of a clone of the Southeast gulf coast native Sarracenia alata var. nigrapurpurea, shared by native plant conservationist, Doug Walker. Since the name "nigrapurpurea" isn't nomenclaturally valid, we've added the cultivar name Sarracenia 'Purple Peeper'. This clone of pale pitcher plant begins in spring with stalks of scrumptious buttery yellow flowers with large drooping petals. As the flowers age, the glowing red pitchers emerge to 2', gradually changing to burgundy. Sarracenia alata 'Purple Peeper' has proven to be an excellent grower, so we are delighted to finally share, although quantities are limited since we grow this by rhizome division.
