We have enjoyed Saponaria 'Pink Out' since 1999 when we planted this seedling in our full sun rock garden, growing it from seed labeled Saponaria cypria. When we researched it more fully, we discovered that the baby momma probably had an unbeknownst rendevous before we met her. Indeed what we were growing was a hybrid with Saponaria cypria and not the true species. We gave our plant the name, Saponaria 'Pink Out' and are now ready to share. For us, Saponaria 'Pink Out' forms a 1' tall x 3' wide patch of lax, hairy stems, clothed in narrow, glaucous, 3" long foliage and ending in terminal clusters of hairy purple calyxes, from which emerge the nocturnal pink-cleft flowers. For us (NC), flowering begins in April and continues through June.
