Back in the 1980s, I'd drool all over Rohdea 'Sekkei Nishiki' where it grew in the lath house of the JC Raulston Arboretum. As much as I wanted a plant, it didn't seem to offset...unless others were liberating pieces after dark. Years later, a friend shared a start, and after 20+ years, we are finally able to offer a few for sale. The small 6" tall x 16" wide clumps are composed of very thick 10" long green leaves, which are 1" wide at the base and taper sharply to a pointed tip. Each heavily ridged leaf is also striped with vertical cream bands and an irregular creamy border. Whether you grow Rohdea 'Sekkei Nishiki' in a bonsai pot or in a special place in the woodland garden, you'll have a treasure worth passing to the next generation of gardeners in your family.
