(aka: Podophyllum A1TW-131 x 004) This offering represents a seed strain that resulted from a cross of two of our Taiwan accessions of the superb, deciduous, clump-forming Chinese mayapple, Podophyllum pleianthum. Our staff crossed our plant from Taipei County with our plant from Taichung County, Taiwan, and these are the result of that cross...each offspring is genetically unique. Podophyllum pleianthum 'Tai Wedding' makes a 2' tall clump topped with two giant, 18" wide, tropical-looking, glossy green, deeply-lobed leaves. The attractive April-borne dangling clusters of shredded beet-red flowers are held below the foliage...much closer to the ground in the Taiwan material than the mainland Chinese plants we've grown. Unlike our native mayapple, Podophyllum pleianthum doesn't run or go dormant in early summer...truly outstanding in the woodland garden.
