(aka: Polygonum virginianum) This is commonly sold as Tovara or Persicaria virginianum, but has proven to be the Asian Persicaria filiformis. This unusual but stunningly beautiful perennial reaches 18" with a wiry stem that is adorned with wonderfully patterned 3" oval leaves...green, with a black chevron mark extending from side to side. The leaf is then overlain with a white-and-pink sector toward the tip. In late summer, this easy-to-grow perennial is topped with airy stalks of tiny red beads...great when used en masse (it will self-sow near the original plant). Moist soils are best, but this plant is very drought tolerant.
