(aka: Rabiea albipuncta) Nananthus vittatus is a superb, winter hardy evergreen succulent (lithops relative), which hails from South Africa's Northern Cape and into northwestern part of the country, where it can be found growing on alkaline sandy loam soils. Nananthus vittatus forms very tight clumps of thick, fleshy green leaves, that are remarkably tolerant of our summer rains. Starting for us, often in early February, the clumps are adorned with large bright yellow starbursts, which sit right on top of the foliage. Our plants have thrived in our well-drained crevice garden. With great age, Nananthus vittatus is prized as a bonsai specimen as it develops a fascinating short trunk-like caudex.
