(aka: Marshallia graminifolia var. tenuifolia) Marshallia tenuifolia is a little-known Southeast US native that can be found in lowland, open pine savannas growing with pitcher plants, from south coastal Georgia along the gulf coast into east Texas. The narrow leaves form an attractive basal rosette topped, starting in early July (NC), with 20" tall stalks ending in fascinating pinky-lavender flowers. Each flower head starts with central white buds that change to pink before opening, at which time the petals twist back to expose the contrasting white stamens...truly fascinating. Our offering is seed grown from a population in Irwin County, Georgia.
