Lychnis 'Hill Grounds' is an amazing new sterile rose campion, that occurred at the UK garden of Janet Cropley of Northamptonshire. This gem is a hybrid between Lychnis flos-jovis and the typically weedy Lychnis coronaria. Lychnis 'Hill Grounds' forms an evergreen basal rosette of gray foliage, topped, starting in early May (NC), with 2' tall open sprays, producing a profusion of vivid magenta flowers. The flowers, which continue until late summer, produce a 3' wide mass of color, and a great food source for bees. Good drainage is really the only key for success with this easy-to-grow gem.
