Leucojum aestivalis is a widespread European native bulb that ranges east into Iran, putting on a show of dangling white flowers atop 20" tall stalks, for us, in late March. The clone, Leucojum ‘Gravetye Giant’, is much more showy than the typical species. This gem was introduced by one of England’s most famous gardeners/garden writers, the late William Robinson (1838-1935). The cultivar is named after his former Sussex garden, ‘Gravetye Manor’, which is now a luxury hotel and garden. Moist, but well drained soils are ideal, for this easy-to-grow pass-along bulb.
