Juniperus communis var. depressa 'Hitchcock'

Juniperus 'Hitchcock' is a very rare Southeast US native selection of a groundcover that's usually native to the western and northern US as well as Asia. The population of Juniperus communis var depressa was discovered by botanist Henry Ravenel in the mid 1800s, in Aiken, South Carolina's, Hitchcock Woods. Our plants were propagated from the remaining single clone in the population, which thrives in quite a bit of shade. Other than making a great groundcover, the fruit is used both as a spice and a flavoring for gin. A toast to native groundcovers!
