Ipheion 'Jessie' is yet another splendid form of the easy-to-grow, Ipheion peregrinans, a rare plant, found on only two hillsides in Uruguay. This cultivar is a Tony Hall (Kew Gardens) introduction that he named for his late sister, Jessie. Ipheion 'Jessie' has intensely deep blue flowers, which are even more intense that its parent, Ipheion 'Rolf Fiedler'. The summer deciduous clumps multiply quickly, with short green leaves that re-emerge in fall. The clumps are nearly covered with 1" gentian blue flowers, starting for us in early March. These are very easy to grow, but perform best in sunny, dry soils.
