Hymenoxys acaulis can be found in the wild on rocky soils in the Great Basin states of Colorado, Idaho, Utah, Montana, and Wyoming. Typically, plants from this region hate our hot, humid summers, but Hymenoxys acaulis has been an exception, growing wonderfully in our rock garden since 2007. For us, Hymenoxys acaulis makes a small 5" tall x 1' wide clump of linear-leaf basal rosettes topped, starting in early April and continuing until frost, with 1' tall stalks of bright yellow daisies. Although its drought tolerance is legendary, it has also been fine with regular irrigation and heavy rains as long as the soils are reasonably well-drained.
