We first discovered this sport of Hosta 'Blue Umbrellas' at Plant Delights in 1999 and after years of trials, introduced it in 2008. In side by side trials with Hosta 'Singing in the Rain', Hosta 'Parasol' has more blue in the foliage and the edge is both wider and more cream than yellow. The 2' tall x 5' wide clumps are adorned with large metallic blue-green leaves, each bordered in creamy yellow. We find all of the Hosta 'Blue Umbrellas' sports to grow much larger in colder climates. The clumps are topped with 32" scapes of hummingbird-friendly lavender flowers in early summer.
