This is my collection of this Korean species from our fall 1997 plant exploration trip. These plants are from the famed Mt. Chiri in southwestern Korea. The parent plants were growing with hemerocallis at 4900' in full sun among large boulders on a very dry hillside nearly above the tree line. Each 2' wide clump of long green foliage is topped in summer with lavender flowers clustered at the top of the scape... hence the species name "capitata" (meaning head).
