Hemerocallis 'Mongolian Gold' is a 2021 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction of a choice selection of the dwarf Hemerocallis minor. Our offering was shared in 2013 by a customer, who discovered it years earlier while hiking through Outer Mongolia, just before emerging in the Gobi desert. In the garden, Hemerocallis 'Mongolian Gold' has very dwarf, mondo grass-like foliage to go with its three distinct flowering seasons. The first flowering season starts for us in late March with slender 20" tall stalks topped with wide lemon yellow flowers...when hellebores are in flower. In mid-July (NC), Hemerocallis 'Mongolian Gold' begins a new flowering cycle, this time with taller 30" stalks. It also has a third flowering cycle starting in early October...amazing! Each stalk holds 6-8 golden yellow, lightly fragrant diurnal flowers, each backed with a dark purple blush toward the base. Not only is Hemerocallis 'Mongolian Gold' a superb garden specimen, but its breeding potential for reblooming is incredible.
